who is a dhh guide?

DHH Guides are a diverse group of DHH adults who compliment the work of Parent Guides by working alongside them.

DHH Guides represent a wide range of hearing levels, communication modalities, technology use and school placement.

DHH Guides share with children and families their unique life experiences, use of technology, how they navigate social situations, how they developed their personal identity, etc..

DHH Guides are trained in the unbiased delivery of services with respect for a family’s decision around technology use or not, language and communication modality or educational placement of the child.

DHH Guides services are provided to families delivered with adherence to all confidentiality and safety
rules of Nevada Hands & Voices.

how can a dhh guide help your family?

DHH Guides give families better expectations and perspectives of their identity, social development, and self-esteem; which will strengthen family relationships and ease parental anxiety.

Interactions can include addressing parent concerns, conversations with the family about technology, and other accessibility accommodations that have assisted the DHH Guide in their life.

The lived experiences of our DHH Guides include a variety of educational and vocational backgrounds, family life, and social interests.

In sharing these experiences and insights, DHH Guides may be able to better articulate important perspectives and bring credibility to the discussion of the child’s needs, in the classroom and in the community.
