
Randi was born hard of hearing and was raised in Southern Nevada. She attended public schools and had speech classes up to ninth grade. Randi worked at Ruby Thomas Elementary school's Deaf Program for five years (1972-1977) because she wanted to learn sign language because she has a Deaf brother. She graduated from Valley HS and went to college in Southern Nevada and at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. She got her B.A. degree in education and spent some time in Southern California. Randi got involved with the theatrical production "Children of a Lesser God" at the San Diego Repertory Theater in 1983 and met many people from the Deaf community in San Diego. She worked with the "Pacific Silent Club" hosting invitational basketball tournaments, fundraising events, and participating in the F.A.A.D. (Farwest Athletic Association of the Deaf), which put on tournaments for the Deaf in basketball, volleyball and softball. She met Lorin King and his daughter Robin and the three of them moved to Las Vegas in 1988. Randi got involved with the local Las Vegas Deaf clubs and organizations and was hired as a Deaf Resources Coordinator in October 1989. She provided comprehensive services for the Deaf at Nevada Association for the Handicapped (1989-2002), along with TTY (telecommunication devices for the deaf) Distribution Program. She was active with the Las Vegas Club of the Deaf and chaired the monthly Dingo event for five years. She served on the board for the Nevada Association of the Deaf for a while, helped start the Southern Nevada Deaf Women's Club, and spearheaded a deaf women's craft group. The craft group eventually became Silver Belles. After her divorce in 1993, Randi raised both her daughters Amy King and Karla King as a single mother. In 2005, Randi started working as a teacher for the deaf with the Clark County School District and this is her 20th year with the district. She has also become a published author since 2023 and has written five storybooks, two coloring & activity books and two "Color Your World" calendars (randijoybooks.com). She does YouTube videos on her stories and plans to do more videos for bus drivers, parents, and teachers. Her YouTube channel is RandiJoy Signs.
